And boy, did it ever work. I was lucky enough to have an older mountain bike that I brought with me. I spotted a notice on an English language website about a 50 km ride. It was posted by an American chap who was riding with a group, who hosted a open ride. During the ride I met up with him and he invited me to ride with his large group of Mexican friends. After that I was part of the gang. As that gang splintered I became more friends with a smaller group. Since then I’ve ridden with lots of people. I hang out with my equipo during the week. My Spanish improved immensely. I got a nick name. I got best friends. We have parties. I chat on the WhatsApp group. It really changed my life.
If you want, try to go out early, like 6am at a likely spot for bikers to converge. I know that the road bikers tend to get together at 6 am at the local bike store. Also at a cafe. Ask any biker you see. Go to the bikes stores. Buy a bike.
